The Victorian Motorcycle Tour Operators Association (vmtoa) was formed by a number of independent Motorcycle Tour Operators (predominantly Harley Davidson Motorcycle Tour Operators) to promote safety within the industry and set standards of practice. We also wanted to create a platform from which to liaise with Government Departments, National and International Tourism Bodies. Another one of our objectives is to lift the overall profile of our industry and raise public awareness of Motorcycle Tours. All of our members are fully licensed by the Victorian Taxi Directorate and are issued with an "S" Registration Plate, which means that they have completed all the police checks, the bike and the rider have met all the criteria required in order to legally conduct Motorcycle Tours. The Victorian Taxi Directorate require all Motorcycle Tour Operators to be covered by Public Liability Insurance and to have a minimum of 5 years riding experience. So if you book a ride with someone who holds an "S" Plate you know that they are a legal operator. We enjoy a good working relationship with the Victorian Police and Security at events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix and were included in security briefings by police for the Commonwealth Games. The VMTOA recognise that being informed and good communication in the environment of major Melbourne events and festivals is a vital key element to the success of our Industry, that safety for the public is a primary concern shared by all members.
